A commitment in line with our values, which we are proud to have accomplished:
eiver is now a signatory to the United Nations climate charter, “Climate Neutral Now (CNNow)”. Explanations.
This charter, managed and administered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an initiative launched in 2015 to encourage everybody to take action to help create a climate-neutral world by the middle of the century, as provided for in the Paris Agreement. Already in 2015, eiver (under the name SaveCode SAS, if you look for us in the article below) had been distinguished among the 150 startups selected for their responsible commitmentat the Paris Climate Convention (COP 21). It was therefore logical that we should go further in the process.
And as we all know, there is an emergency: to avoid the worst effects of climate change, science tells us that we must limit the increase in global temperature between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. To achieve this objective, relying solely on government action will not be enough. So we all have a role to play. We have already reached 1.1 degrees Celsius of global warming. We could reach 1.5 by 2030. So we need urgent action! and eiver takes its share.
Our mission: reduce the impact now
eiver offers solutions available today to reduce the impact of ground transportation (car / truck / bus) with a driver assistance application that rewards responsible driving. And this without complicated equipment, only thanks to a smartphone and a free mobile app. The numbers are starting to speak for themselves. Since the creation of our solution, developed and deployed under various brands for our major customers, but also under our colours for private motorists in Europe, eiver has saved more than 2,000 tonnes of CO2, particularly on everyday journeys, in areas not served by other modes of transport. Obviously not everyone can choose their mode of transport every morning and almost 80% of European territory is served only by cars and heavy goods vehicles.
We are also committed internally
CNNow (Climate Neutral Now) invites member organizations to work for global climate neutrality by tackling their own climate footprint using a 3-step method:
- Measure its greenhouse gas emissions, also known as its “carbon footprint”;
- Reduce them as much as possible through own initiatives; and
- Offsetting those that cannot currently be avoided by using UN Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), a type of carbon credit.
How do we act on a daily basis to limit our impact?
- We work in a shared co-working space and therefore limit our energy impact.
- Apart from testing our solutions, we do not use individual vehicles for business trips when it is not necessary. We favour the train and public transport.
- We devote all our R&D efforts to the eco-design of our software solutions.
- We do not produce or source any hardware equipment necessary for the use of our software and application solutions.
- We optimize our code to minimize the energy consumption of the smartphones and servers that implement our solutions.
- We limit as much as possible the use of sensors embedded in smartphones that often consume a lot of energy (e.g. GPRS/4G) in order to use only the energy that is strictly necessary.
- We host our solutions on IBM Cloud platforms located in France and Germany, which have received ISO 14001 certification.
