CAN A MINOR PERSON REGISTER ON EIVER ?

eiver is an application that analyses your driving skills and you are supposed to be over 18 years old to get your driving licence. You may want to use eiver during your supervised driving training, in which case the easiest way is to ask your accompanying driver to load the application and use it on trips done in your presence. You will then have an access to your driving results via the results of the recorded trips. This will allow you to improve your driving performance for sure.

GAME’S PRINCIPLES

GENERALITIES

eiver took inspiration from the classic codes of online games to stimulate the adoption of more eco-responsible behaviour. By using eiver, you will be constantly rewarded, celebrated, gifted… you will earn XPs (experience points), eCoins (credits), experience levels, trophies and more…

WHY PROPOSE A PLAYFUL APP ?

Because we are convinced that by rewarding drivers for their anticipatory actions at the wheel instead of punishing them for less good behaviour, we can improve safety and reduce pollution for all.

XP AND LEVELS

With eiver, you earn XPs that allow you to climb through levels. That’s the experience !

There are different ways to earn XPs :

  • The main one is by making trips: for each of your rides made with the eiver application, you earn XPs. The number of XPs you earn depends on the quality of your driving. The more flexible it is, the more XPs you earn.
  • By collecting trophies: distance travelled, time spent on the application, number of trips made, etc. All of your positive actions are celebrated and rewarded !
  • By taking part in challenges: your ranking can give you the benefit of additional XPs.
ECOINS

For every XP you earn, you also earn eCoins, which are eiver credits that you can exchange for exclusive discount coupons in the Rewards Area !

And if you want to know the magic formula : 10 XP = 1 eCoin.

HOW TO WIN MORE XP AND ECOINS ?

eiver rewards flexible and linear pipes. The driving behaviours to adopt by the driver to gain a maximum of XP and then eCoins are the following :

  • Change gears quickly during acceleration.
  • Accelerate gradually.
  • Use the engine brake as much as possible.
  • Slow down or brake with anticipation.
  • Adapt your speed to the environment and traffic.
THE TRIP SCORE

At the end of each ride, eiver analyses the driving skills and establishes a score between 0 and 5, which is represented by 5 gold stars more or less fulfilled.

This score is the basis for the calculation of XP. The smoother you drive, the higher is the score and the more XP you earn.

You can find :

  • each route analysis in “Your logbook” (picto list at the bottom left of the app)
  • a summary of your overall journey performance on the home screen, slide down to the bottom of the page, in the form of a coloured « donut ». Trips are classified into three categories: champion, experienced and amateur.
TROPHIES (IN PROGRESS)

You will soon discover that each action on the eiver app is an occasion for celebrations. We have symbolised them with trophies :

  • distance travelled with eiver trophy,
  • trophy for time spent at the wheel with eiver,
  • trophy number of trips made,
  • and many others.

For each trophy won, you add an icon in your account and a card in your logbook.

CHALLENGES

These are challenges proposed to the eiver user community. You can find them by clicking on the “podium” icon at the bottom of the application and you can participate in one click.

Each challenge has gifts. Read the instructions carefully and try to win the jackpot or the consolation prizes, which frequently give you XPs and eCoins to exchange for discounts.

THE EIVER REWARDS

EXCLUSIVE AND PERSONALISED REWARDS

Your eCoins kitty is filling up and you would like to choose your gifts. Go to the “Rewards garage” accessible via the navigation menu at the bottom of the application, symbolised by a small bag, where you will find the exclusive discounts we have negotiated for you.

On each offer, you will find the amount of the discount (in € or in %), the conditions of use of this discount and its validity date. All the discounts are voluntarily dematerialised and are presented in the form of a unique ciphered code in order to avoid paper or email exchanges and thus protect the planet.

We strive to offer you the eco-friendliest offers possible. If you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us via our contact form accessible on our website and within the application in « My account. »

WHERE CAN I FIND MY DISCOUNT COUPONS ?

You have made your exchanges and leave your voucher to be used at a later date. To retrieve it, click on the « My Coupons » tab. Be careful, all coupons have a time limit for use.

CONDITIONS OF USE OF COUPONS

Once exchanged, coupons cannot be refunded. The offers proposed are those of our partners and we are not responsible for them.

HOW TO SAVE FUEL WITH EIVER ?

AUTOMATIC VERSUS MANUAL TRAVEL

You can choose between recording your trips automatically (auto-play) or manually.

Automatic trips

Just after your registration, you will be redirected to a screen showing a play button with a green arrow and just below it a small button to activate auto-play.

By choosing this option, you won’t have to do anything else, eiver will detect when you are on the move and will automatically start your ride. In the same way, if you stop driving for more than a few minutes, the ride will be stopped automatically and your XPs and eCoins will be credited to your account.

In order to optimise the recording of trips in automatic mode, your phone should be placed on the dashboard of your car or on a hands-free kit holder.

You can return to a manual version at any time by going to your account in the settings by deactivating the automatic mode (auto-play).

Data synchronisation is encrypted and secured by SSL. You cannot lose the information. If your smartphone cannot connect to a 3G or WLAN network, your data is kept on the smartphone and will be transmitted to the server when the network will be reactivated.

Manual trips

If you wish to stay in manual mode, you will need for each trip to open the eiver app and click on PLAY at the start of each ride and on STOP at the end of each ride.

However, if you don’t stop the ride manually, it will be stopped automatically after a few minutes with your XP and eCoins counted in your account.

This operating mode requires more attention.

COMPLIANT TRIP

To be compliant, the trips effected must be recorded by eiver. A trip is counted when it is registered in your diary in a « My trip » card.

It is possible that some of your trips may not be in your diary. This is because they are considered invalid or non-compliant for various reasons including : average speeds of less than 9.7km/h and/or distance travelled of less than 2km and/or bad GPS signal when capturing the trip and/or very bad driving resulting in a score of less than 0 XP.

MY PERFORMANCE

On the eiver home screen, you can scroll down the screen to find a summary of your overall performance : number of trips made, number of kilometres travelled, time spent riding with eiver, quality of trips (Champion, Confirmed, Amateur), average score, etc.

eiver is like a driving coach, you can follow your progress, trip by trip.

LOGBOOK

A lot is happening on eiver : trips, coupon exchanges, challenges, trophies, etc. So that you don’t lose these informations, we have grouped them together in your « Logbook », accessible by clicking on the « Logbook » icon in the menu at the bottom of the application. They are presented in the form of a map and classified from the most recent to the oldest.

You will also find announcements of new challenges in your diary.

CAN I USE EIVER IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT : BUS, COACH, TRAINS, CAR SHARING ?

You can use eiver with all possible means of locomotion. You can even use it when you travel by foot. However, eiver will not allow you to accumulate XP below 5 km/h and above 130 km/h because the algorithm has been designed to improve the driving performance of a light motor vehicle (less than 3.5 tons). Inertial models of other vehicle types do not match with the eiver algorithm.

HOW DOES EIVER WORK ?

IS EIVER CONNECTED TO MY VEHICLE ?

eiver is a mobile application, independent of a connection to the vehicle. Therefore, it does not require any automobile expertise or complicated physical installation. Today, there are many consumption measurement tools directly connected to the vehicle’s dashboard. Even if these tools are very accurate, they do not measure the driver’s behaviour, unlike eiver. Moreover, they are rarely connected to the cloud and they do not always keep in memory past performance for later analysis.

WHAT DOES EIVER MEASURE ?

eiver measures driving behaviour. eiver rewards drivers who drive at a steady speed. The application assigns XPs and eCoins to each journey made with the active application. The XPs are the translation of the distance travelled and the score between 0 and 5 established for each trip according to the number and intensity of accelerations and decelerations recorded over a given distance.

HOW DOES EIVER MEASURE MY DRIVING BEHAVIOUR ?

eiver uses GPS to calculate variations in vehicle speed by making several consecutive position measures. GPS positions are given up to 1000 times per second, making the measurement of speed variations very accurate. To allow for a longer battery life of your smartphone, eiver limits GPS captures to 1 time per second, which is enough to determine the instantaneous speed of a motor vehicle.

HOW DOES EIVER ASSIGN A SCORE FOR A GIVEN TRIP ?

eiver records your instantaneous speed and will identify events specific to your driving style: the number and intensity of your accelerations, your braking, the average speed of your trip. These are the elements that qualify your trip using a patented calculation algorithm. This algorithm provides a trip efficiency index that enables to calculate precisely the impact of your driving on your fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and the active safety of your driving (under development). The latter is different according to the environment of your trip, determined by average speeds over successive sections of the trip. For this reason, the efficiency index (or journey score) is conditioned by a “coaster”, “cruiser” or “liner” type journey profile.

LOCALISATION AND OPERATION OF EIVER

To operate, eiver needs to register your position. Then, it is essential that you grant access to the recording of your position when you start your first trip with eiver.

To turn on localisation, go to your phone’s settings.

For an iPhone, on the first page “Settings”, search for the eiver application, then choose “Position”, you will can then activate eiver’s localisation by choosing between “Never”, “When the app is active” or “Always”.

If you have chosen “Only when app is active”, eiver will only work when it is displayed on your phone screen. You will not be able to use it at the same time as another application, such as navigation. The optimum use of eiver is when the localisation setting is set to the “Always” position, which allows eiver to operate in the “background”.

For an Android system, go to Settings, then click on “Applications and Notifications”, choose “Permissions Management”, then “Location Information”, search for the eiver application and finally authorise the localisation if you wish to.

AM I DISADVANTAGED IF I DRIVE AROUND TOWN WITH EIVER ?

A driver in the city is forced to brake and accelerate more than a driver on the motorway. And the more we have to stop and restart, the less efficient and economical our driving is. This is a fact. So, is an urban driver disadvantaged compared to a driver on the road with equal distance travelled ?

The answer is no. All drivers are equally rewarded with XP and eCoins.

Although, the eiver algorithm has been designed to reward above all economical and efficient car trips, that means trips between 80 and 110 km/h (this is where cars consume the least fuel per km) and with the least possible braking and acceleration, compensation systems have been developed.

Indeed, eiver takes into account the profile of the trip (coaster, cruiser, liner) and applies an additional bonus depending on the type of trip :

Coaster / cabotage

– « Short » trips and reduced average speed

– High speed variation : more than 6 stops / restarts in 15 minutes

– Less than 30 km of distance

– Less than 50 km/h average

Cruiser / Mixed

– « Hybrid » trips made mainly on the road

– Trips of less than 250 km

– Average speed between 50 and 90 km/h

– Trip time less than 2 hours

Liner / Long distance

– « Motorway » type trips

– Distance greater than 250 km

– Average speed between 90 and 120 km/h

HOW DOES EIVER ESTIMATE MY FUEL AND CO2 SAVINGS ? (IN PROGRESS)

eiver estimates the fuel savings achieved and the CO2 savings generated thanks to the publicly available information on vehicle consumption provided by manufacturers. The manufacturer’s data is compared with driving results. And finally, a weighting system, derived from an algorithm and obtained by analysing your driving.

From the difference in consumption obtained, we calculate :

  • the cost of spending up or down in relation to the monthly national average fuel price
  • we deduct the CO2 saved depending on the fuel type
DOES EIVER CONSUME MY PACKAGE OR MY BATTERY ?

We are continually working on the eco-design of eiver, in order to optimise the energy consumption of your phone. This is why we only use the position signal (GPS) every second and not every millisecond like most driving assistance applications on the market.

If you turn off all other applications on your smartphone, as well as networks (3G, Wifi, Bluetooth) and use a new battery (3000 mAh), you can record your trip for more than 8 continuous hours without having to recharge your battery.  In addition, we have also worked on optimising the consumption of data connections on mobile networks (Edge/2G/3G/4G….). A mobile data connexion is not required to operate eiver. The trip is kept locally on the application and is synchronised as soon as a network is available. Furthermore, when a connexion is available, it is only used to exchange simple data (no card background to download for example) which consumes a very low amount of data. Our tests show consumption rates of around 250Mo/month for an average of 15,000 km/year.

EIVER AND DRIVING SAFETY

CAN I HANDLE EIVER DURING A TRIP ?

When the application starts in automatic or manual mode, eiver will consider that you are behind the wheel. Then, the application screen will be automatically locked ( in progress). Focus on your driving and only on your driving.

eiver encourages you to drive more smoothly, which will automatically reduce your risk of accidents.

TAKE A BREAK EVERY TWO HOURS OF DRIVING

A break suggestion is displayed on the eiver app screen after 2 hours of driving (in progress). This is one of the only messages displayed. If the application then registers a vehicle stop, you will be rewarded with XPs and eCoins (coming soon).

DO NOT EXCEED THE AUTHORISED SPEED

When your speed exceeds 130 km/hour, a message will be displayed to warn you that the XP counter is blocked. To continue to accumulate speed limits, you will have to go back below the speed limit (available soon).

CONFIDENTIALITY

WHICH DATA WE USE

The only personal data required for a full use of the service is an email address and a hashed password allowing you to create a personalised account if you choose to register by email. Information relating to your vehicle is not compulsory. No vehicle identification (number plate) is required.

The information collected automatically by the application concerns the position of your smartphone associated with a timestamp (date, hour, minute, second) at regular intervals. The position information (latitude and longitude) is retrieved thanks to your smartphone’s integrated sensors. eiver records approximately one coordinate per second. Thanks to this, we can analyse the number and intensity of your accelerations and decelerations but also your downtimes. There is no evaluation of the position data for geolocalisation purposes.

Your data is stored on our secure server.

For more information, please refer to our privacy policy.
